Hello, I have a demo lesson coming up next week. I have 15 mins and the lesson is on main idea/supporting details for a mixed class of 2nd graders/ ells and non ells. Does anyone have any fabulous ideas for an engaging lesson?

I always plan backwards - what do you want them to be to able to produce at the end?

I would use some type of visual-
The main idea is the umbrella, and the details are all of the drops falling from it, or something along those lines. You could also model the concept by talking about something they love, like a show on YouTube or Disney plus or Netflix, or a game like Minecraft or Roblox. Then talk about how the main idea is the ——-, and the details about it are ———….hope this helps 🙂

I would definitely have visuals.
